That’s right, I’ll make the claim loud and clear: the Bafang BBSHD mid-drive electric bike motor system is the single best electric bike platform out there. OEM bikes, third party systems, all the above. I’d rather have a BBSHD than any of them. Not Bosch’s (expensive) stuff, not Shimano’s stuff, not Tongshen’s unknown motors, etc. Nobody’s coming close. Not even Bafang’s OEM-oriented stuff!

And, I should clarify, I’m not a Bafang fan-boy. I have no affinity to the company, don’t think they have any real ‘vision’ or mission, really dislike their distribution / sales model, don’t think they treat their retailers very well (though I am not personally one), and wish an American company was producing a similar counterpart here in the states. But none of these things change the fact that the motor and platform win in just about every category. Let me explain:
